First time weaving

Rag rugs have been commonly used in Finland, from the late 19th century. Before that, there wasn't any spare rag available. Everything was used so carefully. I had always thought, that I should be able to weave a rag rug. I enrolled in a course in The Finnish Adult Education Institute in the year 2010. In the course, we learn to design the fabric, dress the loom, and weave.

I cut stripes from clothes and blankets for hours. It was important for me, that it was 100% recycled material. I learnt in the course, that you can also buy jersey stripes and other suitable materials for "rag" rugs. I also wanted it to look like old and uneven. I added some short stripes here and there, which would point out from the surface.

I definitely found myself in that course. After that, I continued to take the courses in the same institute. I counted that I have taken now 12 courses there. At every course we usually weave two different works. After the first course, I applied to study Craft Science in the University of Helsinki, and I got the place.
